Ranga Demands ~ More in Less*

1

rain bathes ground

pond no longer parched

robust life springs forth

2

awake sunlit wings

shimmer flutter

3

among the cat tails

dragonflies dance

free spirits on the wind

4

bulrushes nod

from lakeside prisons

5

freedom in rebirth

filtered pressed

white Parchment awaits

6

maple oil

stains Akimibi’s cloak

7

sakura leaves

dying in red and yellow-

Kyoto fire

8

chrysanthemums bundle

in chilled air

9

Yuki-onna rests

hand holds stay

turns into snow flurries

First I’d like to give credit to James Kahn for writing verses 4, 6 and 7, also teaching me something new.

I found this form of poetry extremely difficult. One must form an image using the least amount of syllables.

One thought must lead into the next in a progression on the subject. In Japanese poetry less is more or more is less, whichever way you want to look at it.

If you wish to learn more about this form of poetry, I have provided informative links.

Whimsical Thoughts

Oh!

what do you see?

A dragon with whiskers,

draped in royal color?

Perhaps a wise old

wide eyed owl,

wearing a deep

purple headdress?

Maybe a splendid

yellow butterfly,

having lunch on

just a flower?

Or just a few

pretty violets?

let your

imagination soar!

* Footnote:

You met Charlie in Guess who’s Coming to Dinner. He is in the hound category, his sense of smell is unbelievable. This little guy when he picks up a rabbit on our nightly walk, well let’s just say this 30 pounder isn’t easy to hold back. He doesn’t have the typical Tri-coloring. He’s a red, you’ll find a link below with more information about beagles.

Footnote:

Meet Charlie our little red beagle, (his sin would be gluttony :}) whenever we aren’t looking he invites himself to the table. If you dare to leave your seat with food left on the plate you forfeit it. Charlie is at it quicker than lighting.
